Medications for Crohn's disease are used to treat this form of inflammatory bowel disease. Many of these medications also have other uses, such as managing ulcerative colitis. They work in various ways to reduce inflammation and modulate the immune system to help lessen symptoms. Common classes include corticosteroids, JAK inhibitors, and biologics. Corticosteroids like budesonide (Entocort) are usually taken as oral pills. JAK inhibitors, such as upadacitinib (Rinvoq), also come in oral forms. Biologics like adalimumab (Humira) and ustekinumab (Stelara) are typically given as injections.
