What Is Anemia?

Anemia is a condition in which there is low red blood cell count in the body. Red blood cells carry oxygen to different parts of the body. Symptoms of anemia include irritability, fatigue, headaches, pale skin, brittle nails, shortness of breath and difficulty concentrating.

Treatments for anemia include injections and taking supplements. Common drug classes used to treat anemia include folate analogues, multivitamin and mineral supplements, iron supplements, and erythropoiesis-stimulating agents.
