Organ transplant medications prevent many types of organ rejection. They work by suppressing your immune system to prevent it from attacking the transplanted organ. Common classes include calcineurin inhibitors, antimetabolites, and mTOR inhibitors. Calcineurin inhibitors like tacrolimus (Prograf) and cyclosporine modified (Neoral, Gengraf) are usually taken as oral pills but can also be injected. Antimetabolites, such as mycophenolate (CellCept) and mycophenolic acid (Myfortic), are typically taken orally. mTOR inhibitors like sirolimus (Rapamune) and everolimus (Zortress) are also taken orally.
