Medications for cervical cancer treat cancer in the cervix, but many of them can also treat conditions such as lung cancer and colorectal cancer. They work by targeting cancer cells in various ways, including stopping their growth, blocking blood supply to tumors, and boosting your immune system to fight cancer. Common classes include angiogenesis inhibitors, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and topoisomerase inhibitors. Angiogenesis inhibitors like bevacizumab (Avastin) and its biosimilars are usually given as injections. Immune checkpoint inhibitors like pembrolizumab (Keytruda) are also injectable. Topoisomerase inhibitors, such as topotecan (Hycamtin), can be given orally or as an injection.
