Bladder cancer medications are used to treat different forms of bladder cancer. Some of these medications also have other uses, such as treating certain types of breast cancer. They work in various ways, including targeting cancer cells directly, boosting the immune system, and blocking specific proteins that help cancer grow. Common classes include immune checkpoint inhibitors, targeted therapies, and chemotherapies. Immune checkpoint inhibitors like Keytruda (pembrolizumab) are usually given as injections. Targeted therapies, such as Balversa (erdafitinib), are often taken as oral pills. Chemotherapies like Valstar (valrubicin) are typically administered into a vein or directly into the bladder.
