The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication. Let your healthcare provider know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time.
Common Side Effects
- Redness, itching, and other symptoms of a genital yeast infection (4-9%)
- Pain or discomfort while urinating and other symptoms of an urinary tract infection (6%)
- Sore throat, stuffy nose, and other symptoms of the common cold (5-6%)
- Diarrhea (4-6%)
- Headache (3-5%)
Less Common Side Effects
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Back pain
- Dizziness
- Cough
- Urinating more often
Xigduo XR serious side effects
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Too much lactic acid: confusion, feeling weak, fast or slow heartbeat, rapid breathing, no appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
- High ketone levels in the blood: trouble breathing, vomiting, belly pain, dry skin and mouth, feeling very tired, fruity-smelling breath
- Serious kidney problems: confusion, weakness, tiredness, urinating less than usual
- Dehydration (dangerously low body fluids): dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion, dark-colored urine
- Serious genital infection: pain, swelling, or redness in the genital area, fever, weakness
- Severe allergic reaction: hives, swelling in the face or throat, trouble breathing

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
- Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Dehydration—increased thirst, dry mouth, feeling faint or lightheaded, headache, dark yellow or brown urine
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)—increased thirst or amount of urine, dry mouth, fatigue, fruity odor to breath, trouble breathing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
- Genital yeast infection—redness, swelling, pain, or itchiness, odor, thick or lumpy discharge
- High lactic acid level—muscle pain or cramps, stomach pain, trouble breathing, general discomfort and fatigue
- Infection or redness, swelling, tenderness, or pain in the genitals, or area from the genitals to the back of the rectum
- Low vitamin B12 level—pain, tingling, or numbness in the hands or feet, muscle weakness, dizziness, confusion, trouble concentrating
- Urinary tract infection (UTI)—burning when passing urine, passing frequent small amounts of urine, bloody or cloudy urine, pain in the lower back or sides
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Nausea
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Vomiting
