What is Alzheimer's Disease?

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, usually diagnosed in people age 65 or older. It is a progressive disease with no cure and will worsen with time. Symptoms can include difficulty with memory, perception, emotional behavior, language, and cognitive skills.

While there is no indication that any drug can cure or slow the progression of the disease, there are medications that can treat some of the symptoms. Cholinesterase inhibitors (Aricept, Razadyne, Exelon), and NMDA receptor antagonists (Namenda) may help with confusion, memory loss, and other mental changes.
