Propranolol vs. Myrbetriq

Propranolol is a non-selective beta blocker. It helps with a range of medical conditions, including high blood pressure, tremors, and migraine prevention. Sometimes, providers prescribe propranolol off-label to ease performance anxiety. You take this medication by mouth, typically 1 to 4 times daily, depending on if you're taking the immediate-release (IR) or extended-release (ER) medication. Keep in mind the IR and ER versions don't treat the same medical conditions. Some of the more common side effects of propranolol include dizziness, tiredness, or weakness.

Myrbetriq (mirabegron) is used to help with overactive bladder (OAB) in adults. It can also treat a bladder problem called neurogenic detrusor overactivity (NDO) in children 3 years and older. It works as a beta-3 adrenergic agonist to help the bladder hold more urine. Myrbetriq (mirabegron) is taken by mouth once a day. It comes as a brand-name or generic extended-release tablet. A solution made from granules of the medication is available for children, but it's brand name only. Side effects include high blood pressure, cold symptoms, and urinary tract infections.
