The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication. Let your healthcare provider know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time.
Common Side Effects
- Higher liver function tests (up to 18%)
- Higher cholesterol levels (up to 17%)
- Higher creatinine levels (up to 6%)
- Feeling depressed (5%)
- Headache (3%)
- Trouble sleeping (3%)
- Rash (3%)
Less Common Side Effects
- Belly pain
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Low appetite
- Feeling tired
- Dizziness
- Abnormal dreams
- Anxiety
Note: Side effects were reported by people who took Edurant (rilpivirine) with other HIV antiretroviral medications.
Edurant serious side effects
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
- Serious allergic reactions: mouth sores; trouble breathing; rash; fever; swelling in your face, lips, or tongue
- Liver problems: upper right stomach pain, nausea, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes, dark urine

The following Edurant side effects have also been reported
Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
- Allergic reactions or angioedema—skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, eyes, lips, tongue, arms, or legs, trouble swallowing or breathing
- Infection—fever, chills, cough, or sore throat
- Liver injury—right upper belly pain, loss of appetite, nausea, light-colored stool, dark yellow or brown urine, yellowing skin or eyes, unusual weakness or fatigue
- Rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes
- Redness, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
- Thoughts of suicide or self-harm, worsening mood, feelings of depression
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
- Headache
- Trouble sleeping
