Prescription savings programs have been around for over 10 years. Many large, retail pharmacy chains offer them as an option for patients who wouldn’t be able to afford their medication otherwise.

These programs vary from pharmacy to pharmacy. Some have a monthly or annual fee to join, some are free to all customers, and they’re all designed to help you afford your prescription drugs.

The Kroger Rx Savings Club is a membership program that offers a list of over 100 medications for $6 or less. Here’s everything you need to know about the program, including the membership fee, restrictions, and what drugs are included.

What is the Kroger Rx Savings Club?

GoodRx and Kroger launched the Kroger Rx Savings Club in 2018. The Kroger Rx Savings Club is a membership program that offers reduced pricing on thousands of prescription medications. You must enroll in the program to have access to the low prices, and it’s open to patients who are insured, underinsured, and uninsured.

The list of medications for members includes over 100 generics priced between $0 (yes, free!) to $12 for both 30-day and 90-day supplies. If the medication you’re looking for is not on the list of 100+ generics, the Kroger Rx Savings Club website says that you can still save on thousands of other medications not specially priced and available for a discount. Drug prices can be found through the search tool available on krogersc.com.

The membership can be used at any of these Kroger Co. Family of Pharmacies locations:

  • Baker’s

  • City Market

  • Dillons

  • Food 4 Less

  • Fred Meyer

  • Fry’s

  • Gerbes

  • Harris Teeter (select locations)

  • Jay C Food Store

  • King Soopers

  • Kroger

  • Marianos

  • Metro Market

  • Owens Market

  • Pay-Less Super Markets

  • Pick ‘n Save

  • QFC

  • Ralphs

  • Smith’s Food and Drug

How much does the Kroger Rx Savings Club cost?

Membership costs $36 per year for individuals, and $72 per year for a family (you plus 5 others, including pets). This payment is required when you enroll in the program and must be paid in full to complete the sign-up process.

If you try the Kroger Rx Savings Club and then decide to cancel, your membership will end on the day you cancel. If you cancel within 30 days of signing up, you will be fully refunded. If you want to cancel after the 30-day mark, you won’t receive a refund for your $36 or $72 payment.

What’s the length of the membership?

Your membership is good for 12 months and will automatically renew each year on the date of your original registration. Your card on file will be automatically charged.

Both the individual and the family membership include a personalized savings card, savings of up to 85% on prescriptions, eligibility at all Kroger locations (except in the state of Washington and at select Harris Teeter locations), and the option to cancel at any time.

Am I eligible for the Kroger Rx Savings Club?

If you are 18 years or older and you don’t live in the state of Washington, you are eligible for the Kroger Rx Savings Club. Patients younger than 18 and pets can be added to a family membership.

While the Savings Club cannot be used in combination with insurance, you are still eligible if you are insured. Whether you have commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, or beyond, you’re still eligible for the program.

What are the program restrictions?

Kroger’s Savings Club does have some restrictions. Take note of these while deciding whether or not to enroll. Beyond these restrictions, keep in mind that there’s a possibility that your medication could be removed from the list, or the pricing could change if Kroger negotiates or renegotiates these rates. If that does happen, you won’t be refunded your annual membership fee.

  1. The state of Washington is not included. The Kroger Rx Savings Club is not available at retail pharmacies located in Washington.

  2. You can’t use your HSA or FSA to pay for the membership. The annual membership fee is not considered an HSA- or FSA-eligible expense, but you can use these savings accounts when purchasing medications with a club membership.

  3. The prices are not guaranteed. Though it’s unlikely that a price would not be honored, the program’s fine print does note that stated prices on the prescription may change without notice.

What medications are included in the Kroger Rx Savings Club program?

Here is the list of exclusively-priced drugs in the Kroger Rx Savings Club. Scroll through to find out if your medication is on the list, or use the search command on your keyboard or browser, and type in your specific medication. Scroll to the left to see pricing.

What if my medication isn’t on the list?

If your medication isn’t on this list, don’t worry—there are still plenty of options to help you save. Here are some alternatives to keep in mind:

  • Use a GoodRx coupon. GoodRx users save an average of 62% off the retail price of prescription drugs. In some cases, GoodRx coupons may even beat your insurance copay.

  • Always shop around. Many pharmacies constantly change their pricing, and prices often vary greatly from one pharmacy to the next.

  • Use a manufacturer discount. Manufacturers often offer programs to help patients save on their prescriptions or even access a prescription for free. Search for your drug on goodrx.com to find copay cards, assistance programs, and other ways to reduce your cost.

  • Speak with your healthcare provider. If you’re having trouble affording your prescription, let your doctor or pharmacist know so you can work together to find an appropriate alternative.
