UPDATE: As of January 25, the shutdown is over (for 3 weeks, at least). Our Shutdown Special will continue to be available to federal employees through April 15. If you are an affected employee and want to sign up for free membership to GoodRx Gold through April 15, please do so. We would be happy to accept new members for free until that time.

GoodRx Gold

Our original post published on January 11, 2019 is below.

Yesterday evening, I was flying home to my family and I passed through a TSA security checkpoint. As I handed the agent my ID, I tried to be especially grateful and appreciative, because this agent will be going home this weekend without a paycheck.

The current shutdown of the federal government has left over 800,000 people without pay. Many hard-working Americans won’t be receiving their paycheck. Regardless of who you blame for the shutdown, many of our neighbors, friends, and family members—people who have devoted their careers to serving the country—have been left struggling with their healthcare and medication bills.

I started GoodRx with a simple mission: Help Americans find affordable healthcare. There’s never been a better time to help than now.

As of today, GoodRx is offering all federal employees affected by the shutdown a free 90-day membership to GoodRx Gold, our premium savings program that offers more than 1,000 common medications for less than $10.

GoodRx Gold typically costs $5.99 (for an individual) or $9.99 (for a family) per month. I’ve asked our team to provide free GoodRx Gold memberships to all affected federal employees for the next 90 days.

GoodRx Gold prices are often less than insurance, and GoodRx Gold is accepted at CVS, Kroger, Albertson’s, Safeway, Vons, and tens of thousands of other pharmacies.

GoodRx doesn’t set pharmacy prices, so we can’t make drugs free, but we can waive GoodRx Gold membership fees. Our hope is that federal employees and their families can potentially save $300 or more on their healthcare during the next 90 days.

Our plan is to end this program on April 15, 2019, by which time we hope that our politicians have (finally) found a way to compromise. Our goal is to reduce the cost of impacted families’ prescriptions during the shutdown and for some time after as well.

A credit card is required for membership, but you will not be charged if you cancel your membership before April 15, 2019.

To receive the GoodRx Gold Shutdown discount, follow these simple steps:

    • Email address you used to sign up for GoodRx Gold

    • The following fields from your federal ID card (FedIDCard): affiliation, agency name, issue date and expiration date

  3. Until April 15, 2019, GoodRx Gold will be free for affected federal employees. Use it to help pay for your prescriptions whenever our prices are better than your insurance copay (check drug prices and eligible pharmacies here).

  4. The program ends on April 15, 2019, at which time you may cancel your membership or continue using the program for $5.99/month for individuals or $9.99/month for families.
