Medications for von Willebrand disease are used to treat bleeding disorders. They work by either increasing the levels of von Willebrand factor or other clotting factors to help your blood clot more effectively. Common classes include synthetic hormones and clotting factor concentrates. Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic hormone that's given as an infusion. Clotting factor concentrates, like Alphanate, are also given as infusions.
