Thrombopoiesis-stimulating agents are used to raise platelet levels in people with certain conditions, such as chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and chronic liver disease. These medications work by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more platelets, which helps to reduce the risk of bleeding. Thrombopoiesis-stimulating agents come in different forms, such as oral pills and injections. Examples include romiplostim (Nplate), eltrombopag (Promacta), avatrombopag (Doptelet), and lusutrombopag (Mulpleta).
