Corticosteroid suppositories like hydrocortisone acetate, Anucort HC, Hemmorex-HC, and Anusol HC are common medications used to decrease swelling and pain caused by minor skin irritations, or by hemorrhoids. But there is some confusion about these drugs that is causing some sticker shock at the pharmacy.

If you think you are filling for hydrocortisone acetate be aware that your pharmacy may fill for a brand name like Anucort HCHemmorex-HC, and Anusol HC which tend to be more expensive. While they contain the same active ingredient (hydrocortisone acetate), they are not therapeutically equivalent by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are listed on separate pricing pages on GoodRx. While they may not be able to accommodate your request, be sure to speak with your pharmacy to see if they can order the more affordable medication.

Also, be sure to set your prescription to the correct dosage and quantity in the menu on GoodRx before printing a coupon in order to get the most accurate estimate.
