Experience

Alex Eastman, PhD, RN, is a California-based registered nurse and staff medical editor at GoodRx, where he focuses on clinical updates and Latino health. 

He’s a certified healthcare interpreter (CCHI) and health literacy specialist (Institute for Healthcare Advancement). He has worked as a medical translator and interpreter in clinics and hospitals for more than a decade. Previously, he served beachgoers throughout San Diego as an EMT-certified lifeguard with San Diego Fire-Rescue.

Alex has worked as a writer and editor in academic and healthcare settings for 10+ years. He has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics from civil rights history and literacy campaigns to tourism and multicultural education. 

His work in education has revolved around communication, language, and culture — from bilingual elementary education on the Tijuana/San Diego border and Fulbright-sponsored research on diversity and inclusion programs in Colombia to university instruction at Dartmouth College, Washington University in St. Louis, and La Universidad del Valle. 

Education

Alex graduated from San Diego State with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and media studies and Spanish, along with a certificate in translation and interpretation studies. He holds a doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, where he studied language and linguistics with a focus on literacy and educational reform in Latin America. Alex then completed 3 years of postdoctoral training at Dartmouth College. Most recently, he studied nursing at Santa Barbara City College en route to becoming a registered nurse in California.
