Uribel Tabs
Uribel Tabs is a combination of 5 medications used to treat pain and irritation of the urinary tract caused by lower urinary tract infections or medical procedures. Methenamine, benzoic acid, and methylene blue work together to kill or stop the growth of bacteria in the urine. Phenyl salicylate helps to ease pain. And hyoscyamine lessens the urge to urinate often or without warning. Uribel Tabs is taken by mouth, typically 4 times a day with plenty of water. It can be used by adults and children ages 6 years and older. Uribel Tabs doesn't cause many side effects, but it can sometimes cause your urine and stools to turn blue to blue-green in color; this effect is harmless and temporary.

- Methenamine is broken down to formaldehyde in acidic urine, which kills bacteria and stops its growth.
- Methylene blue works as an antiseptic, meaning it prevents growth of bacteria.
- Phenyl salicylate works as a pain reliever.
- Benzoic acid keeps your urine acidic to help methenamine break down into formaldehyde.

Pharmacist tips for Uribel Tabs
- You can take Uribel Tabs with or without food. Drink plenty of water after taking each dose to make sure your kidneys have good blood flow.
- Uribel Tabs works best when your urine is acidic. Limit foods that make your urine less acidic (alkaline-producing foods) such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. Avoid any medications that lower the acidity in your body such as antacids or sodium bicarbonate.
- If you experience a rapid pulse, dizziness, or blurred vision, stop taking Uribel Tabs right away and contact your healthcare professional (HCP). Don't drive or do things that require you to focus until you know how this medication makes you feel.
- Uribel Tabs might turn your urine or stool blue or blue-green because of the methylene blue component of the medication. This isn't harmful and should go away after you stop taking the medication.
- Uribel Tabs can slow down gut movement and affect how your body absorbs certain medications. Let your care team know that you're taking Uribel Tabs because they might need to make adjustments to medications that you're already taking or monitor you more closely for side effects.
- You can have an allergic reaction to Uribel Tabs if you've had a reaction to belladonna alkaloids, such as atropine and scopolamine (Transderm Scop), or salicylates, such as aspirin. Let your HCP know if you've had allergies to these medications in the past.
- It isn't known if Uribel Tabs can harm you and your unborn baby, so it should only be used if it's really needed. The hyoscyamine and methenamine components of the medication cross the placenta, but it isn't known what effect this has on your unborn baby. Let your prescriber know if you're pregnant before taking Uribel Tabs.
- Store Uribel Tabs at room temperature in a container that will protect it from light.
