Typical dosage for Tiagabine
- If already taking certain antiepileptics that affect Tiagabine levels in the body (e.g., carbamazepine (Tegretol), phenytoin (Dilantin), primidone (Mysoline), phenobarbital): The typical starting dose is 4 mg by mouth once daily. Your provider will raise your dose slowly every week until they find the right dose for you. The maximum dose is 32 mg total per day for children 12 to 18 years old, and 56 mg total per day for adults. The total daily dose should be separated into 2 to 4 doses.
- If already taking other antiepileptics that don't affect Tiagabine levels in the body: Your provider will work with you to find the right dose for you. In general, you'll take a lower dose than what's listed above, and your dose will be adjusted more slowly to avoid side effects.
Your dose might differ if you have liver problems.
