DIHYDROERGOTAMINE treats migraines and cluster headaches. It works by blocking pain signals and narrowing blood vessels in the brain. It belongs to a group of medications called ergot alkaloids. It is not used to prevent headaches or migraines. Compare ergot derivatives.
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
This medication is injected under the skin, into a muscle, or into a vein. If it is injected into a muscle or vein, it will be given by your care team in a hospital or clinic setting. It may be given at home if it is injected under the skin.
If you get this medication at home, you will be taught how to prepare and give it. Take it as directed on the prescription label. You will be taught how to prepare and give it. Do not take it more often than directed.
It is important that you put your used needles and syringes in a special sharps container. Do not put them in a trash can. If you do not have a sharps container, call your pharmacist or care team to get one.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. Special care may be needed.

Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from light, moisture, and heat. Do not refrigerate. Do not freeze. Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
