Nemluvio (nemolizumab or nemolizumab‑ilto) is an injectable biologic medication used to treat people 12 years and older with moderate‑to‑severe eczema. It can also treat adults with prurigo nodularis (PN). It works as an interleukin antagonist to lessen skin inflammation. Nemluvio (nemolizumab) comes as a prefilled pen. You inject the medication under the skin once every 1 or 2 months. Side effects can include headache and joint or muscle aches.
Nemluvio (nemolizumab) is an interleukin‑31 (IL‑31) receptor antagonist. It blocks the IL‑31 receptor, which is a protein that sends itch signals and plays a role in skin inflammation. By blocking this receptor, the medication helps calm itching and reduce inflammation. This can lead to less scratching and improved skin.
The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication. Let your healthcare provider know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time.

How to use the Nemluvio pen:
After the first dose of Nemluvio (nemolizumab), some people had less itchiness as early as 48 hours for PN and 1 week for eczema. Keep in mind that it can take a few months or more to see the full effects of the medication on your skin. Keep taking Nemluvio (nemolizumab) as prescribed, even if your skin doesn't improve right away. Ask your prescriber if you have questions about how long it takes to work.
The FDA first approved Nemluvio (nemolizumab) in August 2024 to treat prurigo nodularis. Later in December 2024, it was also approved to treat moderate-to-severe eczema.
Nemluvio (nemolizumab) is given as an injection under the skin. For 60 mg doses, you'll need to use two pens to give two separate injections, one after the other, at least 1 inch apart. For 30 mg doses, you'll only need one pen for one injection. You can inject the medication into your thigh or stomach (2 inches away from your belly button). You can also have someone inject it into the back of your upper arm.
Yes, you can keep Nemluvio (nemolizumab) at room temperature for up to 90 days. Don't let it get warmer than 77ºF. If you don't use the medication within 90 days at room temperature, throw it away in a sharps container.
Nemluvio (nemolizumab) and Dupixent (dupilumab) are both injectable biologic medications for certain skin problems. Both are for adults with PN or eczema. But Dupixent is approved for a younger group of kids with eczema than Nemluvio. Regardless of age, Nemluvio is injected once every 4 weeks (sometimes every 8 weeks for eczema). But for Dupixent, adults and older children inject once every 2 weeks. Younger children of a certain weight only need Dupixent once every 4 weeks. Talk to a healthcare professional to compare and see which is right for you.
If you’re pregnant or planning to be, talk to your prescriber before using Nemluvio (nemolizumab). Also talk to your prescriber if you plan to breastfeed. There isn't enough information to know if this medication is safe in these situations. Your prescriber can explain the risks and benefits and help you decide what's best for you.
Nemluvio (nemolizumab) can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
Some people have had allergic reactions to Nemluvio (nemolizumab). These reactions can include severe swelling in the face and anaphylaxis. They can sometimes be life-threatening.
Watch for signs like a rash, fever, feeling unwell, dizziness, and joint pain. Also look out for swelling in your face, lips, tongue, or throat and trouble breathing. If this happens, stop Nemluvio (nemolizumab) and get medical help right away. Your care team might tell you not to restart the medication after a serious reaction.
In studies, shingles happened rarely in people taking Nemluvio (nemolizumab). Most cases were mild or moderate. Shingles can cause a painful, blistering rash on one side of the body, sometimes with a fever.
Ask your care team if you should get a shingles vaccine before starting Nemluvio (nemolizumab). During treatment, let your prescriber know about any new rashes, fever, or nerve pain. If the rash is on your face or near your eye, get medical care right away to protect your vision. Treating shingles early helps prevent other problems.
Before starting Nemluvio (nemolizumab), talk to your healthcare team about your vaccine history. It's a good idea to be up to date on your vaccines before treatment.
While taking Nemluvio (nemolizumab), tell your prescriber, pharmacist, or nurse that you're taking this medication before getting any vaccines. They can check if the vaccine is safe for you. We don't completely know how this medication affects how some vaccines work or how safe they are for you. To be safe, avoid live vaccines while taking Nemluvio (nemolizumab).
