Used for Facial Wrinkles

Letybo (letibotulinumtoxinA or letibotulinumtoxinA-wlbg) is an injection used for adults. It's FDA approved to temporarily improve frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). A trained professional gives Letybo as small injections into certain muscles near your eyebrows. Injections are given during a short office visit. You shouldn’t get them more often than every 3 months. Many people notice changes within days and full effects in about 2 weeks. Side effects include headache, droopy eyelid, and mild bruising or swelling at the injection site.

How Letybo works

Letybo is a neuromuscular blocker. This means it blocks signals between your nerves and muscles. It works by stopping a nerve chemical called acetylcholine from being released from nerves. Acetylcholine normally tells your muscles to tighten.

When Letybo is injected near and between the eyebrows, it relaxes the muscles in that area. This helps soften frown lines. Over time, the effect wears off, usually within a few months.

Pharmacist tips for Letybo

pharmacist
  • Before getting Letybo, tell your prescriber about all the medications you take. Some can raise the effects of Letybo, like muscle weakness. These include certain antibiotics, anticholinergics, muscle relaxants, and other botulinum toxin products. Your prescriber can help keep you safe.
  • The area(s) where you get Letybo injected might be red, swollen, or bruised. This should get better within a few hours or days. Tell your care team if you have any concerns, if these reactions get worse, or if they don't go away.
  • You’ll usually start to see smoother frown lines in a few days after your Letybo treatment. It should take about 2 weeks before you see the full effects of the medication. But keep in mind that the effects wear off in a few months.
  • Wait at least 3 months between Letybo treatment sessions. Getting Letybo more often than every 3 months can raise risks without extra benefit. Talk with your prescriber if effects wear off sooner than you expect.
  • Tell your care team if you get droopy eyelids, dry eyes, or vision problems after getting Letybo. These problems can make it unsafe to drive or do other things that could be dangerous. Your care team can give guidance on how to manage side effects like dry eye. Don't drive or do anything risky until your vision clears.
  • Get medical help right away if you have trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing after getting your Letybo treatment. Also get urgent care right away if you feel widespread weakness. These side effects are rare but can start hours to weeks after an injection.

Risks and warnings for Letybo

Letybo can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.

Spread of toxin effect

  • Risk factors: History of muscle or nerve conditions

Warning Icon Some people who use Letybo or similar products might have side effects that spread beyond the injection site. It can sometimes happen hours to weeks after treatment. These toxin effects can include trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing. It can also include double vision or widespread weakness. This is rare but can be serious and life-threatening.

Let your prescriber know if you have any nerve or muscle conditions. Also tell them about any breathing or swallowing issues. You might be at higher risk and might need closer monitoring. Get urgent care if any of these symptoms happen after your Letybo treatment.

Serious allergic reaction

  • Risk factors: History of allergic reaction to a botulinum toxin product

Severe allergic reactions to Letybo can happen. This can include anaphylaxis, hives, swelling, or trouble breathing. If this happens, stop treatment and get medical help right away. Tell your prescriber if you’ve had reactions to any botulinum toxin product in the past.

Heart issues

  • Risk factors: History of heart problems

Heart issues, like abnormal heart rhythm and heart attack, have been reported with botulinum toxin use. Make sure to tell your care team if you have a history of heart problems. Get emergency help right away if you have chest pain, shortness of breath, an irregular heartbeat, or dizziness after treatment.

Trouble swallowing or breathing

  • Risk factors: History of swallowing or breathing problems | History of muscle or nerve conditions | Injecting Letybo into muscles that affect breathing or swallowing

Trouble swallowing or breathing can happen hours to weeks after treatment with medications like Letybo. These problems might last for weeks to months. It mostly happens if the medication is injected into areas that affect breathing or swallowing. The risk might be higher if you already have problems with swallowing or breathing. It could also be higher if you have other conditions that affect your muscles or nerves.

Even though Letybo is injected near your eyebrows, it's still a good idea to know about this risk. Get medical help right away if you have trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing.

Eye and vision problems

  • Risk factors: History of dry eye or eye problems | History of muscle or nerve conditions

Medications like Letybo can reduce tear production and blinking. This can cause dry eye, eye irritation, light sensitivity, and vision changes. Tell your care team if you notice these symptoms. You might need lubricating drops and to avoid driving until your vision clears.

Transmission of diseases

Although rare, Letybo has a small risk of spreading certain viruses or diseases because it contains a protein from human blood. Blood donors are screened, the blood is tested for infections, and the product is processed to remove or kill viruses. These steps help lower the risk, but it’s still possible. If you have concerns, talk to your care team.
