  • Jardiance is a brand-name medication and can be costly, with a list price of more than $600 for a month’s supply. Without insurance, 30 tablets of Jardiance 10 mg cost an average of $761.69.

While some medications are approved to manage one condition, others can effectively treat many. Jardiance (empagliflozin) is a pill that can be used to manage Type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. The typical dosage is a 10 mg or 25 mg tablet taken once a day.

Jardiance was initially approved by the FDA in 2014 as a treatment to improve blood glucose (sugar) levels in adults with Type 2 diabetes. The medication, known as a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, works along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar levels by removing extra glucose from the body through urine.

The FDA also approved Jardiance as treatment for heart failure in 2021 and for chronic kidney disease in 2023.

Because Jardiance has been found to be effective for so many conditions, it is widely prescribed. Without discounts or prescription medication coverage, a monthly supply could cost more than $600. Here's how much Jardiance costs without insurance and how you may be able to save on your prescription.

How much does Jardiance cost?

The list price for a 30-day supply of Jardiance was $629.43 as of January 1, 2025, according to Boehringer Ingelheim, the medication’s manufacturer. That doesn’t mean this is the amount you will pay, but it illustrates the medication’s hefty price tag.

Here are some average retail prices for brand-name Jardiance. There is no generic option available yet.

What factors affect the cost of Jardiance?

Without insurance, what you pay for Jardiance will depend on several factors, including your:

  • Pharmacy: Pharmacies can set their own prices.

  • Location: Medication costs can vary based on region.

  • Dose: Whether you’re prescribed the 10 mg tablet or the 25 mg tablet can affect how much you pay.

  • Fill quantity: Medications can cost less per month when purchased in bulk.

Does insurance cover Jardiance?

Almost every health insurance plan covers Jardiance. If you have insurance, review your plan’s summary of benefits and coverage and formulary (list of covered medications) to determine whether Jardiance is covered. If not, contact your plan provider and ask about your coverage options. You can also discuss alternatives with your prescriber or pharmacist.

To get coverage for Jardiance, some health insurance plans require enrollees to get prior authorization. Some plans in every insurance category require enrollees to do step therapy, or try other medications first. You’re most likely to have these coverage restrictions with Medicaid, commercial plans not purchased through an Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplace, and ACA plans.

Tips if your medication isn’t covered by insurance

If your insurance doesn’t cover Jardiance, you still have options:

  • Use a GoodRx coupon to save on your prescription.

  • Ask your prescriber about less costly options that meet your needs. This could mean switching to another brand-name medication that costs less or a medication that has a generic option available. (Jardiance doesn’t come in a generic version.)

  • Request a formulary exception from your insurance company. If your request is denied, you have the right to file an appeal with your plan.

  • When it’s time for open enrollment, compare health insurance plans to find one that provides coverage for your medications.

Ways to save on Jardiance

Whether or not you have insurance, there are ways to reduce the cost of Jardiance. Here are four options.

1. Use a GoodRx coupon

You may be able to use a free GoodRx coupon to lower the price of your Jardiance prescription. For example, you could pay as low as $622.89 for a 30-day supply of Jardiance 10 mg with a GoodRx coupon at certain pharmacies. Visit www.goodrx.com, or download the GoodRx app on your mobile device, and use a coupon today. Here’s how:

  • On the app or website, type “Jardiance” in the search field.

  • Choose the desired dose and quantity. Input your ZIP code or address, or select “Use my current location,” so you see results for local pharmacies.

  • Choose how to receive your coupon. You may want it emailed or texted to you, or you may want to print it out.

  • Take your coupon with you to the pharmacy. Present the coupon to the pharmacy’s staff early in the filling process to help avoid delays at the pickup counter.

2. See if you qualify for a copay savings card

If you have commercial insurance, you may be able to benefit from a manufacturer copay savings card. This can help you pay for out-of-pocket costs such as copays or coinsurance.

With the Jardiance savings card, you could pay as little as $10 per month for a 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day prescription. You can save up to $175 per 30-day supply. You do not qualify for the copay savings card if you have government-sponsored insurance, such as Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare, or rely on a state-run patient assistance program or State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program.

The sign-up process for the Jardiance savings card differs depending on the condition you’re treating:

3. Check if you’re eligible for a patient assistance program

The Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation Patient Assistant Program is offered by a nonprofit established by the manufacturer of Jardiance. The program provides free medications to people who meet income and residency requirements and are either uninsured or have Medicare Part D coverage.

You may also be able to get help through other patient assistance programs. The Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation offers grants to pay treatment costs for people who are covered by Medicare and have a demonstrated need for financial support.

The PAN Foundation has funds for people prescribed Jardiance for Type 2 diabetes, for people prescribed Jardiance for heart failure, and for people diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. These funds help cover copays and other costs. At the time of publication, none of these funds were accepting new or renewal enrollees — but you can join the waitlist for any of them.

4. Tap into your HSA, FSA, or HRA

Consider using a flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA), or health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) to pay for your medication. These types of accounts have multiple tax benefits when the funds are used for qualified healthcare expenses. This can reduce your out-of-pocket costs through tax savings. But be sure to review your account’s contribution limits, rollover limits, and eligible expenses.

The bottom line

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is an FDA-approved treatment for managing Type 2 diabetes, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. With so many uses, it's a commonly prescribed medication. But the list price exceeds $600 for a 30-day supply, and there is no generic version available.

Without insurance, the average price for 30 tablets of Jardiance 10 mg is $761.69, but you could pay as little as $622.89 with a GoodRx coupon at select pharmacies.

If you have commercial insurance and use the manufacturer copay savings card, your out-of-pocket costs could be as low as $10 per month for a 30-day, 60-day, or 90-day supply. If you are uninsured or have Medicare Part D and meet certain income requirements, you may be able to get free medication through the manufacturer’s patient assistance program.

Methodology

We obtained national prescription coverage data for each medication from Managed Markets Insight & Technology (MMIT). The data reflects health insurance coverage as of August 2025.

We calculated the percentage of enrollees in plans that cover each medication by dividing the number of enrollees covered for the medication within a specific insurance channel (e.g., ACA, Medicare, Medicaid) by the total number of enrollees in all plans within that channel.

We determined the percentage of enrollees in plans with a prior authorization requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that required prior authorization for the medication within each channel.

Finally, we measured the percentage of enrollees in plans with a step therapy requirement by calculating the proportion of enrollees in plans that imposed step therapy requirements for the medication in each channel.

These estimates, derived from national MMIT coverage data, provide insight into health insurance coverage for each medication. They take into account restrictions such as prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limits. The percentages are expressed relative to the total number of enrollees covered by various insurance channels, including ACA plans, commercial (excluding ACA) plans, Medicare, and Medicaid (both state-run and managed care plans).
