Simvastatin (Zocor, Flolipid) is an inexpensive drug used to lower levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Simvastatin may also reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke in patients with risk factors for heart disease. This drug is slightly more popular than comparable drugs. It is available in generic and brand versions. Generic simvastatin is covered by most Medicare and insurance plans, but some pharmacy coupons or cash prices may be lower.
