As COVID-19 continues to change the landscape of healthcare, patients and providers alike are making adjustments. And as more counties and states issue “stay at home” directives, you may be seeing fewer patients face-to-face for their routine visits. Whether you’re resorting to phone calls, emails, or utilizing telemedicine services, one thing is for sure: The patient visit may look a little different for now.

When it comes to helping patients afford their necessary medications, you may be wondering how to get coupons to those who need them most. And if you’re most accustomed to handing patients the physical GoodRx coupon cards that are sitting in your office, you’re not alone. But if that’s not possible right now, don’t forget that there are several simple ways to send digital coupons directly to patients.

As your patients continue to stay home to stay safe, here’s how you can make sure they still get the savings opportunities they need.

Option 1: Email coupons to patients

You can email coupons for a specific medication, dosage, and quantity directly to your patients. Use the search bar on goodrx.com to find your patient’s medication and then navigate to the coupon for their preferred pharmacy.

Step 1: Once you find the exact coupon that your patient needs, click “Get Free Coupon.” This will take you to the coupon page.

Step 2: Click the “Email” button in the top left corner of your screen. An email entry field will appear.

Step 3: Type in your patient’s email address and the coupon will be sent directly to them from a GoodRx email address.

Once you’ve sent it, they’ll receive an email from GoodRx via mail@goodrx.com. If they don’t receive the coupon immediately, ask them to check their spam folder and/or add “mail@goodrx.com” to their trusted contacts or address book.

After your patient confirms that they have received the coupon email, they’ll just need to provide that information to their pharmacist. Amidst this COVID-19 crisis, we ask that patients take extra care when interacting with their pharmacists. More tips on that can be found at the end of this post.

Option 2: Text coupons to patients

You can text coupons directly to your patients. But don’t worry, the text will come from GoodRx number, not your personal phone number. The process is similar to emailing coupons to patients.

Step 1: Using the search bar on goodrx.com, find your patient’s medication and navigate to the specific coupon for their preferred pharmacy.

Step 2: Click the “Text” button in the top left corner of your screen.

Step 3: Enter your patient’s mobile number.

Your patient will receive an automated text message from GoodRx containing both an image of the coupon and the typed information that needs to be provided to their pharmacist.

Option 3: Ask your patients to download the GoodRx app

If your patient does not already have the GoodRx app on their mobile device, they can download it to access coupons directly. The app can be found in the Apple App Store and Google Play. You can also tell your patients to go to goodrx.com/mobile and enter their phone number to receive a direct download link.

Once they download the app, they can search for their medication, enter their dosage and quantity, and enter their location. This will provide them with several coupon options, allowing them to choose their preferred pharmacy and access a coupon immediately.

Option 4: Use the GoodRx Pro app, specifically for HCPs

GoodRx also offers an app specifically for healthcare providers. You can use the app to search for your patient’s medications and then either text or email them a link to that drug’s pricing information on goodrx.com. Both the email and the text message are sent directly from GoodRx, so you won’t have to enter any of your own contact information. Download the app by visiting goodrx.com/doctors/mobile-app.

Step 1: Search for your patient’s specific medication.

Step 2: Tap “Send to Patient.”

Step 3: Select either “Send by Email” or “Send by Text (SMS).”

Step 4: Enter your patient’s contact information and tap “Send.”

This option doesn’t provide the patient with a coupon for a specific pharmacy. It provides them with a link to the GoodRx coupon options for their medication. They’ll need to enter their dosage, quantity, and location, and then select their preferred pharmacy to get their coupon.

Option 5: Print and fax

You can always print a specific coupon and fax it to the pharmacy where your patient will be picking up their prescription. To do this, follow the same steps to search for the specific coupon your patient needs and then click “Print.”

Once you print the coupon, fax it to the location where your patient will be picking up their prescription.

How patients should use GoodRx coupons in the pharmacy during COVID-19

The best ways for patients to share coupon information with a pharmacy during COVID-19 is to call the pharmacy ahead of time, print the coupon, or write down the coupon information and hand it to the pharmacist. This will limit contact that could potentially expose your patient or their pharmacist to the virus.
