Clorpres is made up of two medications that lower your blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic (water pill) that makes you urinate more. It works in the kidneys to remove extra water and certain electrolytes, which lowers blood pressure and gets rid of swelling. Clonidine is an alpha agonist that lowers blood pressure by telling the brain to lower the activity of stress hormones. Fewer stress hormones leads to more relaxed blood vessels.
No, Clorpres has been discontinued and is no longer available in the United States.
It's not clear why Clorpres has been discontinued by the FDA, but it wasn't taken off of the market because of any issues about safety or how well it works. The individual medications, clonidine and chlorthalidone, are still available as separate medications.
