VMAT2 inhibitors are used to treat health conditions such as tardive dyskinesia and Huntington's disease. VMAT2 inhibitors are thought to work by blocking the vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) protein, which helps to reduce the amount of dopamine and other chemicals in the brain, thereby mangaging involuntary movements. These medications are available in oral forms, including tablets and capsules. Examples include tetrabenazine (Xenazine), deutetrabenazine (Austedo, Austedo XR), and valbenazine (Ingrezza, Ingrezza Sprinkle).
