Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength is an over-the-counter medication that contains acetaminophen (a pain reliever), pamabrom (a diuretic, or water pill), and pyrilamine (an antihistamine). It's used to treat symptoms caused by monthly menstrual periods (e.g., bloating, cramps, aches, pains, extra water weight) in people ages 12 years and older. It's taken by mouth every 6 hours as needed. Side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, and urinating more often.
Short-term relief of symptoms from monthly menstrual periods:
Cramps
Headache
Bloating
Weight gain from too much fluid in the body
Muscle aches
Backache
Irritability
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength is a combination of three medications that work together to relieve symptoms caused by menstrual periods.
Acetaminophen is a pain reliever. It blocks chemicals in your body to help treat pain.
Pamabrom is a diuretic (water pill) that tells your kidneys to make more urine. This helps remove the extra fluid in your body.
Pyrilamine is a first-generation antihistamine that blocks a natural substance in your body called histamine. It might help to relieve irritability by making you feel more calm.

Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can make you sleepy or dizzy during the day, which can affect your ability to focus, think, or react. Don't drive until you know how the medication affects you.
Pyrilamine in Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can cause dry mouth. If you experience this side effect, try chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on a sugar-free hard candy. If it's really bothersome, contact your primary care provider because you might need a different treatment plan.
Stop using Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength and contact your primary care provider if you experience any of the following: 1) pain worsens or lasts more than 10 days; 2) fever that gets worse or lasts more than 3 days; 3) you have redness or swelling; or 4) you have new symptoms. These might be signs that you need more medical attention.
It's best to avoid alcohol while taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength. Drinking alcohol with antihistamines like pyrilamine can worsen side effects, like sleepiness and dizziness. Also, combining alcohol and acetaminophen raises the risk for liver damage.
Tell your care team about all the medications you're taking, especially if you're taking warfarin (Coumadin) or medications that cause sleepiness. They can make sure Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength is safe for you to take.
Don't start any new medications while you're taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength without talking to your primary care provider or pharmacist first. In particular, be aware of other medications that have acetaminophen, diuretics (water pills), or antihistamines. Taking these medications with Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can raise your risk of serious side effects, including liver damage and dizziness.
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
Risk factors: Drinking 3 or more alcoholic beverages a day | Taking other medications containing acetaminophen | Taking too much Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength | History of liver problems
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength contains acetaminophen, a pain reliever. Taking too much acetaminophen can cause serious liver damage. The risk is higher for people who drink alcohol regularly while taking this medication. For most adults, the maximum amount of acetaminophen is 3 or 4 grams in a 24-hour period, depending on your healthcare team's instructions.
Speak to your primary care provider before taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength if you have liver problems because this medication might not be appropriate for you. Signs of liver problems include dark urine, feeling tired, upset stomach or stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes. If you notice any of these symptoms, call your primary care provider right away.
Risk factors: Drinking alcohol while taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength | Taking other medications that cause sleepiness
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can make you very sleepy, which can affect your ability to focus, think, or react. This side effect is more likely to happen or be more intense if you drink alcohol or take other medications that cause sleepiness (e.g., opioids, benzodiazepines, sleep medications) while taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength. Don't drive or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Risk factors: Liver problems | Glaucoma | Breathing problems (e.g., emphysema, long-term bronchitis) | Urinary conditions
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength isn't an appropriate option for people with certain medical conditions. For example, if you're 65 years or older or taking other medications that make you sleepy, the pyrilamine in this medication can raise your risk for falls and trouble urinating. Another example is that if you're already taking a water pill, the pamabrom in this medication can put you at higher risk of losing too much body fluids. Before starting Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength, let your medical team know about what other medications you're taking and what health conditions you have so they can check to see if this medication is a safe choice for you.
Although rare, acetaminophen in Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength can cause serious skin reactions, such as rash, blisters, skin reddening, or skin peeling. It's also possible to have an allergic reaction to the medication, including facial swelling and wheezing. If you notice unusual changes in your skin, swelling in the face, or trouble breathing, stop using Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength and get medical attention right away.
Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength contains an analgesic (acetaminophen), diuretic (pamabrom), and an antihistamine (pyrilamine), which can be in many other OTC and prescription medications. Taking more than one medication containing acetaminophen, a diuretic, and an antihistamine can lead to serious side effects, including liver problems, dehydration, and agitation.
Tell your care team about the medications you're taking before starting Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength to make sure it's safe for you. Don't start any new medications while taking Pamprin Multi-Symptom Maximum Strength without talking to your primary care provider or pharmacist.
