Frequently asked questions about Triamcinolone eye injection

What's triamcinolone eye injection?
Triamcinolone eye injection is an injectable corticosteroid. It works by lowering the chemicals in your body that cause swelling and inflammation. It's used to treat certain conditions of the eye that involves swelling, redness, or fluid buildup. This medication is injected into the eye by your provider.
What are some side effects of triamcinolone eye injection?
Some of the most common side effects of triamcinolone eye injection include high pressure inside the eye and cataracts. Other side effects include injection-related reactions, such as blurry vision, discomfort, and pain.
Does triamcinolone eye injection cause any serious side effects?
One serious side effect of triamcinolone eye injection is eye infections. You shouldn't use this medication if you currently have an eye infection. If your eye becomes red, sensitive to light, painful, or if you notice a change in vision after getting triamcinolone eye injection, tell your provider right away because this might be a sign of an infection. Another serious side effect of triamcinolone eye injection is vitreous detachment. This is a condition where the fluid-filled portion of your eye pulls away from the retina. You might notice dark spots, squiggly lines, flashes of light, and shadows in your vision when this occurs. If this happens, contact your provider right away.
What's the difference between triamcinolone eye injection and other forms of injectable triamcinolone?
Triamcinolone eye injection isn't the same as other forms of injectable triamcinolone, such as Kenalog. Triesence and Xipere are injected into the eye to treat certain eye conditions, whereas Kenalog is injected into the muscles or joints to treat conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or certain skin problems.
