Though COVID-19 has disrupted our everyday lives, one thing has remained constant: Healthcare professionals are absolutely vital to the safety of our communities.
Last fall, GoodRx launched its very first scholarship for students working towards, or who recently received, their Doctor of Pharmacy degree or pharmacy technician certification. With over 150 accomplished applicants and thoughtful essays to evaluate, we were proud to announce our first 10 scholarship winners. This year, we’re moving the application and award period up so our future health leaders can receive the additional support they may need in the upcoming months.
Starting today, applications for the 2020 GoodRx Pharmacy Innovation Scholarship will be open until May 28, 3PM (CST).
We are providing $1,000 each to 10 recipients (5 PharmD students and 5 pharmacy technician students) who can showcase their passion and talents through their ideas. Applicants are encouraged to interview a non-pharmacy healthcare professional and learn about how they work with pharmacists or pharmacy technicians to ensure patient care. With that in mind, they’re then asked to write an essay explaining creative and innovative ways to improve communication and collaboration between care teams.
Through our scholarship, we’re hoping that students will be inspired to think beyond the challenges of the current health crisis and focus on how the landscape of healthcare might be changed forever. Now, more than ever, long-standing healthcare practices have been forced to evolve rapidly. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, routine patient visits now take place virtually through telehealth services and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) will be moving online. It’s hard to say if this shift will be sustained, but it’s a testament to healthcare professionals’ abilities to move and adapt quickly.
If you’re currently on your way to becoming a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, or have recently graduated or been certified, we encourage you to apply now!
