In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, millions of children and their families in the United States are facing hunger. Amid this increased need and an uncertain school year, school meals are more important than ever. With school closures and remote learning, it’s more challenging to reach kids with the school meals they need. Ever since schools initially shut down in March, No Kid Hungry kicked its operations into high gear.
No Kid Hungry is a national campaign working to end childhood hunger in America for good.
In April, shortly after the coronavirus forced schools to close their doors, GoodRx donated $10,000 to support No Kid Hungry’s coronavirus response through our Good to Give program. At GoodRx, we know that good nutrition is foundational to good health. That’s why we decided to get behind a campaign whose purpose is to eradicate child hunger.
In addition to providing meals for children, No Kid Hungry also responded to the crisis by:
Granting $54.6 million to 1,674 organizations, toward a total of $60 million before the year’s end.
Asking the government for emergency food assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for low-income families.
The No Kid Hungry campaign was launched by Share Our Strength in 2010 and has since helped to implement the following programs:
School breakfast: Children who wouldn’t typically get breakfast before school get healthy meals at the start of their school day.
Summer meals: Parents who rely on school lunches for their children can access free summer meals. They’re served in schools or community centers or delivered by food trucks in rural areas.
Afterschool meals: Some children go without food between lunch at school and breakfast the next day. Afterschool programs that provide meals and tutoring help children improve their test scores, boost graduation rates, and raise a sense of security.
Food skills education: Thanks to free classes and apps about shopping and cooking healthier, parents can learn to feed their children nutritious, low-cost meals.
Research & policy: A team of experts shares its knowledge with communities through conferences, research materials, and case studies. It also funds and develops new programs to reach more children with healthy meals.
Advocacy: No Kid Hungry works with elected officials and government agencies to speak up for vulnerable children.
One in four children face hunger today because of the coronavirus. You can help by donating money or sharing the Free Meals Finder on Facebook.
Want to help even more? Consider speaking up for children or sending Congress an email message, asking for an increase in SNAP benefits.
No Kid Hungry believes that no child should go hungry and it will remain steadfast in its mission until “every single child in America has the food they need to grow up healthy and strong.”

Good to Give is our employee-driven charity program, where we support nonprofit organizations and contribute to their efforts through donations. To select groups to support throughout the year, we’re asking our employees to nominate nonprofits and causes important to them before taking a company-wide vote on recipients each quarter.
