Now in its fourth year, Good to Give is GoodRx’s employee-driven donation program to foster the spirit of giving back. Every quarter, GoodRx employees nominate nonprofits aligned with our company values. We get many recommendations for worthy organizations. Based on employee votes, we donate a total of $25,000 to a select few every 3 months.
In 2022, we donated $100,000 to 19 impactful organizations. Unsurprisingly, a number of them were healthcare related. They were involved in areas such as funding research and treatment of rare diseases or supporting childhood development programs.
But we also donated to other causes, like:
Promoting environmental sustainability and education
Addressing the war in Ukraine
Improving access to reproductive healthcare
Providing care for victims of mass shootings
Here are a few of the organizations we gave to last year.
Often, we receive nominations for organizations that are close to our employees’ hearts. One of those was the Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit that helps veterans and active duty service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound during military service.
Chris Girouard, IT system administrator at GoodRx, nominated the organization in honor of his brother, who is a wounded veteran. Chris’ brother was discharged from the Army after being injured while on duty in southern Afghanistan and was in a rough spot.
Chris says his brother is alive and fully recovered today thanks to the Wounded Warrior Project, which helped rehabilitate him. His brother has also volunteered through the Wounded Warrior Project to help other soldiers recover, too.
We also donated to Miry’s List, a nonprofit that provides support for refugee families arriving in the U.S. from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Iraq, and most recently, Ukraine and Moldova. Their programs address gaps in government support and provide the items, programs, and human connection that foster the well-being of new arrivals and help them thrive.
Our donation to Miry’s List went toward the Rapid Response program. It provides beds, bedding, pillows, mattresses, and cribs for new arrivals of all ages. Thanks to our help, families were able to have comfortable beds in their first American homes.
Over the next 2 years, community-based support offered by organizations like Miry’s List will help the up to 125,000 refugees the U.S. government is expected to resettle in 2023. We’re proud to support this timely cause.
Finally, we donated to ColorStack, an organization that works to increase the number of Black and Latinx computer science students and help them start rewarding technical careers. ColorStack operates an open membership model that delivers community building, academic support, and career development opportunities at scale to thousands of students annually.
Our Good to Give donation funded welcome swag packs for new members. Students announced their ColorStack membership and shared pictures of their swag packs on social media. Doing this attracted more Black and Latinx computer science students to the organization and fueled 60% of ColorStack’s membership growth in Q3.
Current economic conditions have led to rescinded job offers and hiring freezes, which are causing anxiety and stress in Black and Latinx computer science students. So support for racially underrepresented technical talent is crucial.
2022 was a great year for giving back to worthy causes, and we’re excited to do even more good in 2023.
