GoodRx Helps is committed to finding ways to address racial and social disparities in healthcare. And we believe that one of the many ways we can make a difference is through financial assistance to underrepresented groups in the medical field.
We are proud to announce the launch of Nurses for Change, a new scholarship that aims to support diversity in the nursing profession. It follows two similar awards from GoodRx Helps this year: our Equity in Pharmacy Scholarship and our Future Black Physicians and Physician Associates Scholarship. Here’s more on the Nurses for Change Scholarship and how to apply.
It goes without saying that nurses are a critical component of patient care. There are a variety of roles within the nursing profession. From certified nursing assistants to advanced practice nurses, they all impact patient care in unique and meaningful ways.
Nursing is also consistently ranked as one of the most trustworthy professions. Their work relies on close interactions with patients, so they have a unique understanding of their patients’ healthcare needs and experiences. Nurses see firsthand the challenges and barriers patients face, including well-established disparities in healthcare outcomes.
But similar to most healthcare professions, persons of color are underrepresented in nursing. According to data from 2020, only about 19% of all nurses identified as non-white. GoodRx Helps is excited to help move the needle on this issue.
We encourage applicants to share how they plan to incorporate their learning and lived experiences into providing care to patients and communities. We will award $5,000 each to 10 nursing student applicants with the most compelling ideas.
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be a current or recently graduated nursing student (LPN/LVN, ASN, BSN, MSN, APRN, DNP)
Have completed their last semester no earlier than spring 2022 (if a recent graduate)
Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
Self-identify as a person from an underrepresented population in the healthcare field
Awards are nonrenewable and may be used at a:
Four-year college or university
Junior or community college
CCNE-, ACME-, or ACEN-accredited nursing education institution
The application window is open from July 6 through August 15, and winners will be announced on September 15, 2022.
GoodRx Helps is proud to support the careers of students from underrepresented groups. We know students in healthcare need our support now more than ever, so they can pursue their goals of bettering patient care and advancing health equity in their fields. We hope that decreasing the financial burden of education can help students focus on their training, rather than the cost of it.
