SGLT2 inhibitor / gliptin / biguanide combinations are used to treat Type 2 diabetes. They work by combining three different types of medications: an SGLT2 inhibitor, a gliptin (DPP-4 inhibitor), and a biguanide. SGLT2 inhibitors help your kidneys remove excess glucose (sugar) through your urine. Gliptins increase natural insulin release and decrease the amount of glucose produced in the liver. Biguanides reduce glucose production in the liver and improve insulin sensitivity. These combinations are available as oral tablets. An example of this combination is empagliflozin / linagliptin / metformin (Trijardy XR).
