What is Xarelto used to treat?
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a blood thinner that treats and prevents blood clots. It works by blocking Factor Xa — a special protein in the blood that plays an important role in the clotting process. It's a popular alternative to older blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven). Healthcare professionals prescribe it for blood clots in the legs (deep venous thrombosis), blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), people who are at increased risk of blood clots, and stroke prevention in people who have atrial fibrillation. View original source
