The purpose of Shingrix is to prevent herpes zoster, otherwise known as shingles, which is a viral infection characterized by a painful rash. Preventing shingles can also protect against long-term nerve pain that can persist after the rash goes away. Shingrix has been found to be more than 90% effective at preventing shingles in adults with healthy immune systems.
