The first liquid levothyroxine, Tirosint-Sol, has finally made its way to pharmacies! Approved back in 2016,  the new medication is now available to patients with hypothyroidism who prefer a liquid (instead of tablet) formulation.

What is Tirosint-Sol?

Tirosint-Sol (levothyroxine) is approved to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones. Hypothyroidism can cause symptoms like tiredness, weight gain, depression, and forgetfulness.

In the past, those with hypothyroidism had to take tablet or capsule medications like Synthroid, generic levothyroxine, and Tirosint. However, with the approval of the new liquid formulation, more patients, like those who are unable to swallow a tablet or capsule, have access to hypothyroidism treatment.
