MenHibrix is a combination vaccine that protects you from meningococcal disease caused by infection from the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis (N. meningitidis), as well as from disease caused by the Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) bacteria. It's no longer available in the United States because it was discontinued.
MenHibrix is a combination vaccine that protects your child from meningococcal disease caused by the N. meningitidis groups C and Y bacteria (types of the same bacteria), as well as Hib disease from the Haemophilus influenzae type b bacteria. Both infections can lead to meningitis, a serious and sometimes life-threatening infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. Hib disease can also cause other illnesses, like mild ear infections and more serious bloodstream infections. MenHibrix helps prevent these serious infections in children.
No, MenHibrix has been discontinued and is no longer available in the United States.
MenHibrix was discontinued because of low demand for the vaccine. However, other vaccines that target both bacteria are still available and often used today. You or your child can receive Menactra or Menveo (meningococcal conjugate vaccine), which gives protection against N. meningitidis groups A, C, W, and Y. Your child can get protection from Hib by receiving Acthib or Hiberix (Hib vaccine) or Pentacel (Dtap / polio / Hib vaccine).
Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. Tell your healthcare professional if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicine.
