The Johnson & Johnson (J&J/Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine is one of four currently available COVID vaccines in the U.S. All of these vaccines are effective at preventing severe illness and hospitalization.
Below is more information about the J&J vaccine, and where to schedule an appointment near you.
Here’s what you need to know about the J&J COVID vaccine:
It’s a viral vector vaccine given as a single dose to prevent COVID.
The FDA has limited its authorization of the J&J vaccine’s use to those who are at least 18 years old AND who can’t or won’t receive another COVID vaccine.
Its use is limited due to the risk of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), a rare condition with possibly life-threatening blood clots and low levels of blood platelets.
The J&J vaccine has also been linked to a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome.
People who received the J&J vaccine can receive any type of booster 2 or more months later. The CDC recommends one of the mRNA bivalent boosters (Pfizer or Moderna) over the J&J booster.
