The hallmark of the autoimmune disease ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is inflammation of the sacroiliac joint — the joint at the base of the spine that connects it to the pelvic bones. That said, there are a number of other symptoms and complications that can come with it.

One of the lesser known symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis is fatigue. “The thought behind why that happens is really multifactorial,” says Eliana Cardozo, DO, assistant professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
