Lauren Smith, MA, has worked in health journalism since 2017. Before joining GoodRx, she was the senior health editor and writer for HealthiNation. Prior to working in media, she was a middle school writing teacher in New York City.
She is passionate about public health and making complex topics more accessible to the general public. She enjoys writing about mental health, plant-based nutrition, and preventing chronic illnesses.
Lauren is currently a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists. She has been published by The New York Times and VegNews, and she is currently writing her first book, focusing on the deceptive uses of language by the wellness industry.
Lauren received her Bachelor of Arts in English education from South Dakota State University in 2012. There, she earned her teaching certification for 7-12 language arts in South Dakota and received an award for top thesis in the English department.
She received her Master of Arts in individualized study from New York University in 2017. She once again received an award for the top thesis among the graduating students at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
