Additionally, a specific formulation of colchicine (Lodoco) is approved to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in certain adults. These medications work by stopping white blood cells from responding to uric acid crystals that can build up in joints, which reduces inflammation and swelling. Colchicine comes in different forms, including oral tablets, capsules, and liquid solutions. Examples include Mitigare, Colcrys, and Gloperba.
