Rybelsus (semaglutide) can cause gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. These tend to go away over time. Rybelsus also has a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors. This is due to findings from animal studies, but the risk for people hasn't been confirmed. Because of this, you shouldn’t take Rybelsus if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or if you have a generic condition called multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. Other serious side effects that have been linked to Rybelsus or similar medications include pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas), worsening diabetes-related eye problems, and acute kidney injury.
