Cidofovir has not been studied for the treatment of CMV in people who do not have AIDs. Many people with healthy immune systems don't need to take antiviral medications if they have CMV. However, if a provider believes that a patient with CMV who does not have AIDs may benefit from antiviral medication therapy, cidofovir may be one of the options.
