Venelex (balsam peru/castor oil) is an ointment that's used on the skin to cover wounds. It can also help to get rid of smells and might relieve pain from the wound. Although the ointment is easy to apply, it can cause some stinging on sensitive areas.
Wound management, including:
Skin ulcers (e.g., pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers)
First and second-degree burns
Surgical wounds
Trauma wounds
Skin graft wounds (a patch of skin that's removed from one area of the body and attached to another)
Venelex (balsam peru/castor oil) is a combination of two medications used to help treat wounds:
Balsam peru is an oily sap that comes from the Myroxylon balsamum tree. How it works isn't fully known, but it might have some antimicrobial activity that can help prevent infection in wounds.
Castor oil is made from seeds of the castor oil plant, and is thought to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound healing activity.
The ointment provides a moist environment for wounds to heal and prevent cracking around the edges of sores.
