Use the dropper that comes with the medication to measure the dose. Ask your child's provider or pharmacist if you need extra droppers. Don't use household spoons, because they aren't accurate and might cause you to give your child the wrong dose.
Fill the dropper to the appropriate line based on your child's dose. Then, squeeze the dropper bulb once to give your child the medication. There might be a small amount of medication left in the dropper tip after giving your child the dose. Don't worry; your child has gotten the full dose.
Make sure to check the ingredients of your child's toothpaste, food, and drinks to see if they contain fluoride. If they do, don't give your child Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) and contact their healthcare provider for guidance. Having too much fluoride in the body can lead to side effects (e.g., changes in how the teeth look).
Tell your child's provider or pharmacist about all the medications and supplements your child's taking before starting Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) to make sure there are no interactions. Give your child Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) at least 2 hours before or after taking food or medications containing calcium, aluminum, or magnesium. Examples include dairy products, certain antacids, and certain laxatives. They can affect how well Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) works.
Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
Taking too much fluoride can cause a condition called fluorosis that can cause changes to your child's teeth. Additionally, ingesting large amounts of fluoride at one time can cause burning in the mouth, sore tongue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, salivation, and vomiting blood. If your child experiences any of these symptoms while taking Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride), call their healthcare provider or contact a Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 right away.
Each milliliter (mL) contains 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D and 0.25 mg of fluoride.
Floriva (vitamin D / fluoride) is typically taken by mouth. Use the medication as instructed by your child's provider. They will help adjust the dose based on how well your child is responding to the medication.
