EnBrace HR is a dietary supplement. It contains two B vitamins, vitamin B9 (folate) and vitamin B12, as well as a small amount of iron. Check out the FAQ section to see why these vitamins may be helpful for you.
The following side effects may get better over time as your body gets used to the medication. Let your healthcare provider know immediately if you continue to experience these symptoms or if they worsen over time.
Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
EnBrace HR helps provide you with certain vitamins that you need during pregnancy — a time when you need more nutrition for your own health as well as for supporting the growth and development of a baby. EnBrace HR contains folate and vitamin B12, which are both important for making DNA and red blood cells. Taking folate when you're trying to have a baby or pregnant is also important to help prevent certain birth defects in an unborn baby (e.g., problems with brain or spinal cord development). If you have anemia that's due to either low folate or vitamin B12 levels, your provider might recommend you take a supplement like EnBrace HR to help. EnBrace HR also contains a small amount of iron, which plays an important role in delivering oxygen throughout the body. Additionally, the manufacturer lists a small amount of vitamin B6 as an ingredient, which is thought to help with morning sickness during pregnancy.
Even though EnBrace HR is considered a prenatal vitamin, the manufacturer states that you can start it before, during, or after pregnancy if your provider prescribes it to you. EnBrace HR contains folate (folic acid). It's recommended that you take folic acid before and during pregnancy to help prevent some birth defects in an unborn baby (e.g., problems with brain or spinal cord development). As for after pregnancy, some people might need supplementation depending on their nutritional needs. Talk with your provider about the best time to start this supplement.
The manufacturer states that EnBrace HR only contains about 5% of the recommended daily value of iron that a female should have during pregnancy. If your provider tells you that your iron levels are low, you may need to take EnBrace HR with another supplement that contains a good source of iron.
The manufacturer recommends taking this medication on an empty stomach because your body absorbs iron better this way. But if EnBrace HR causes you to have stomach upset, taking it with a small amount of food can help. If you do take EnBrace HR with food, your provider might recommend you to take it with glass of orange juice or a vitamin C tablet because these can help your body better absorb the iron.
Based on a small study, the manufacturer claims it's possible that EnBrace HR might be a safe and effective way to help prevent and treat depression in females trying to have a baby and also during pregnancy. More research is needed in this area, so make sure to talk to your provider about the risks and benefits before using EnBrace HR.
EnBrace HR can cause some serious health issues. This risk may be even higher for certain groups. If this worries you, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other options.
EnBrace HR contains folic acid, which can sometimes mask a condition called pernicious anemia, or anemia due to low vitamin B12 levels. If you have a history of low vitamin B12 levels, tell your healthcare provider so they know to monitor your blood counts and blood levels of folic acid and vitamin B12 more closely.
