Losartan (Cozaar) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used for several conditions, including high blood pressure, stroke risk reduction, and slowing the progression of kidney disease in patients with diabetes. It was one of the first ARBs to become available as a generic, and it's still more frequently prescribed and less expensive than others like Diovan (valsartan) or Benicar (olmesartan). It's also frequently used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide (losartan/HCTZ), which may be more effective for some conditions.
