It's taken by mouth or through a feeding tube, typically 4 times a day at meal and snack times. Pharmacist tips for Dojolvi (triheptanoin)

pharmacist
  • Work with your care team and your dietician to make sure you're getting the right nutrition while taking Dojolvi (triheptanoin). They'll also help you calculate the Dojolvi (triheptanoin) dose based on your caloric needs.

    • Dojolvi (triheptanoin) can interact with certain kinds of plastic. Don't mix or give it using containers, dosing syringes, or measuring cups made of polystyrene (e.g., styrofoam cups) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Instead, use ones made of safe materials, like stainless steel, glass, or silicone.

      • Use a dosing syringe or medication cup to measure your dose of Dojolvi (triheptanoin) in milliliters. Household spoons should never be used to measure medications because they might not be accurate, even if you're specifically using a teaspoon or tablespoon. Talk to your pharmacist or provider if you don't have a proper dosing device.

        • If you miss a dose of Dojolvi (triheptanoin), take it as soon as you remember. But keep in mind that this might shift the timing of the other doses because you'll need to take each dose 3 to 4 hours apart. You can also just skip the missed dose if you're not able to fit in all your doses for the day.

          • If you're having stomach-related side effects from Dojolvi (triheptanoin), let your provider know. They can help you split your dose into more frequent, smaller doses throughout the day. Your provider might also lower your dose until your symptoms get better.

            • If you're pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant, talk with your provider. There's not enough information to know whether Dojolvi (triheptanoin) is safe to take during pregnancy. Talk with your provider about the benefits and risks of taking Dojolvi (triheptanoin) during pregnancy.

              How is Dojolvi (triheptanoin) administered?
You can take Dojolvi (triheptanoin) by mouth or by feeding tube. Use an oral syringe or measuring cup (made of the appropriate material) to measure out your prescribed dose. If you're taking it by mouth, you should mix it with certain soft foods and liquids, such as fat-free yogurt, pudding, or formula. This mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. If you're taking it by feeding tube, you should mix the dose with the correct amount of formula, and give the entire amount through the feeding tube. Any leftover formula mixture should be thrown away after the dose is given.
What can you mix with Dojolvi (triheptanoin)?
Dojolvi (triheptanoin) can be mixed with fat-free soft foods or liquids, such as formula, milk, yogurt, or applesauce. The Dojolvi (triheptanoin) dosing guide has a complete list of foods that you can mix with the medication. Ask your care team for more information about mixing Dojolvi (triheptanoin) with foods.
How do you store Dojolvi (triheptanoin)?
Store Dojolvi (triheptanoin) at room temperature. It’s best to keep it in its original container to prevent damage to the medication. Dojolvi (triheptanoin) is only good for 9 months after you first open the bottle (or until the expiration date, whichever comes first). Be sure to throw away any medication that's left over after this time. Some safe options for discarding expired medications are medication take-back sites and carefully disposing of medications in the trash.
Does Dojolvi (triheptanoin) interact with any medications?
Don't take Dojolvi (triheptanoin) with pancreatic lipase inhibitors like orlistat (Xenical) because it can make Dojolvi (triheptanoin) not work as well. This is because medications like orlistat (Xenical) lower the activity of certain proteins, which are needed to break Dojolvi (triheptanoin) down into the form your body can absorb.

The website also has information about enrolling in the Dojolvi Copay Assistance program, which can help with the cost of the medication.
