Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that causes AIDS which is a disease of the immune system. Symptoms of HIV/AIDS may not show up for up to 10 years. Symptoms can vary, but common ones include: chills, fever, rashes, night sweats, weight loss, weakness, and swollen lymph glands.

There is no cure. There are however, treatments that can prolong life. Common drug classes used to treat HIV are CCR5 antagonists, HIV entry inhibitors, HIV integrase strand transfer inhibitors, HIV NNRTIs, HIV NRTI / integrase strand transfer inhibitor combinations, HIV NRTI / NNRTI combinations, HIV NRTIs, and HIV protease inhibitors.
