What Is Dengue Fever?

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease caused by one of four dengue viruses. Symptoms of dengue fever usually begin 4-6 days after infection, and can include fever, headaches, eye pain, muscle pain, fatigue, nausea, and mild bleeding. In severe cases, serious bleeding and shock can occur, which can be life-threatening.

Treatment for dengue fever includes fluids and pain relievers. It can also be prevented through vaccination.
