Medications for cystinuria are used to treat this condition, rheumatoid arthritis, and Wilson's disease. These medications also have other uses, such as managing certain autoimmune disorders. They work by reducing the amount of cystine in your urine, which helps prevent the formation of cystine stones. Common classes include thiol drugs and chelating agents. Thiol drugs like tiopronin (Thiola, Thiola EC) are usually taken as oral pills. Chelating agents, such as penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen), also come in oral forms.
